Meagan Sway is Policy Director at the ACLU of Maine, where she advocates at the state and local level for policy that advances civil rights and liberties for all people in Maine. She has pushed for dramatic changes to the state's drug policy throughout her time at the ACLU of Maine, including, most recently, writing and lobbying LD 967, a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of drugs that passed in the Maine House of Representatives in 2021.
Before joining the ACLU of Maine, Meagan practiced law for nearly a decade in a variety of areas, focusing her efforts on the rights of people who are incarcerated and people in danger of losing their homes from eviction or foreclosure. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College.
