THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED

Gil Scott-Heron explained “the first change that takes place is in your mind” when sharing the backstory to his iconic song. Decriminalize Maine presents a panel discussing the evolving consciousness of efforts to disrupt a problematic American drug policy within our Beloved Community. We invite participants to critically think about the revolutions happening in our minds and how to manifest them into civil action. Discussion will possibly include topics such as reforms to stop incarcerating Portland residents for drug use, the reform efforts to reveal a better path for Mainers who use drugs, and the criminal justice professionals advocating for drug policy and criminal justice reforms that will make communities safer. In light of massive shifts in government spending, citizens can influence neighbors or peer-groups or bookclubs in critically thinking how to lovingly support every soul in our Beloved Community.
